Procedures & Treatments

Each patient comes to us with unique circumstances and conditions. These personal considerations are of the utmost importance to Dr. Poer and his team and are thoroughly reviewed with you and your family prior to treatment and at any time throughout your care.

You will always be informed of the latest treatment options as they become available as well as the most appropriate therapies or procedures for your condition. Dr. Poer offers patients the safest, most advanced therapies and treatments available, including:

  • Avastin Injection
A well-tolerated, relatively low-risk treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Avastin works by blocking potent biochemicals involved in the inflammatory process and slowing-often stopping-the growth and leakage of abnormal blood vessels. May require a minimum of three injections. Read more.
  • Intravitreal Triamcinolone (Kenalog, Triesence) Injection
A long-acting intraocular steroid used as a diagnostic index to control inflammation, resolution of
macular edema and inactivation of subretinal neovascular membranes. Read more.
  • Ocular Photodynamic Therapy (OPT)
A treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that uses a photosensitive drug to identify and adhere to diseased tissue. Infusion of this drug is followed by the targeted irradiation of the diseased tissue. Read more.
  • Triple Therapy
A three-tiered approach to the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that is believed to lead to better visual outcomes, greater duration of effect, prolonged stability, fewer treatments and a greater degree of convenience. Read more.
  • Pneumatic Retinopexy
A well-tolerated, outpatient procedure for the treatment of retinal detachments. Under local anesthetic, the doctor injects a small gas bubble into the middle of the eyeball which floats to and presses lightly against the detachment. The retina is flattened in place to allow for removal of fluid beneath it. A freezing probe or laser beam is used to seal the tear.
  • Cryoretinopexy
An effective treatment for weak or torn retina that uses a probe to freeze and seal the retina around the tear and attach it to the layers beneath it. Often used in combination with Pneumatic Retinopexy.
  • Laser Photocoagulation
Also an effective treatment in the repair of retina tears that uses an intense beam of light to make tiny burns around a tear in the retina. Over several weeks, the burns form scars or seals to prevent fluid from accumulating under the retina. Often used in combination with Pneumatic Retinopexy.
  • Vitrectomy Surgery
Vitrectomy Surgery is used in the treatment of a growing list of ocular conditions, including intraocular hemorrhage due to diabetic retinopathy, removal of preretinal and subretinal membranes, repair of retinal detachments, closure of macular holes, removal of foreign bodies and retained lens fragments, release of vitreous strands, removal of scar tissue and improvement of retinal vascular conditions such as diabetic macular edema. Thank you so much

for taking the time to thoroughly explain everything to me in a way I fully understood. This is so rare today.
