Introduction

Dr. Poer is one of the most experienced retinal surgeons in central Indiana and has been practicing in Indianapolis for over 30 years. He is an ophthalmologist certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and by the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association. He was trained at the University of Michigan and Indiana University and completed his retina fellowship at an affiliate of the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Dr. Poer's largely referral-based practice is limited to medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. He works closely with referring physicians in treating patients with macular degeneration, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, ocular trauma, and other medical and surgical conditions of the retina and vitreous. His expert care includes treatment with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and laser instruments, including the capability to perform digital fluorescein and ICG angiography, optical coherence tomography, ultrasound, automated visual fields, and more.

Patients are treated at Dr. Poer's Indianapolis office, adjacent surgical center,  Community Hospitals and St. Vincent Hospitals in Indianapolis.  Twice a month, he sees patients at the Richmond office.

Dr. Poer has been named among the "Best Doctors in America" 2002-2003, 2005-2006, 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 (Best Doctors), and was one of Indianapolis Monthly's "Top Doctors" (Indianapolis Monthly, September, 1998).

Spiritual Beliefs

I believe that God has been trustworthy, good and full of grace through all of life's disappointments, challenges and personal failures. He is amazingly good and I take comfort in Jesus' promise from John 16:33:

"In Me, you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."

It is remarkable that God has chosen to live in all believers.

My priority is to know and love others with the love of God ("...that I might know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering..." - Philippians 3:10) and to serve each person as an individual worthy of the highest level of excellence and attention. I am committed to serving in a way that best meets each individual's needs and for as long as he or she needs my assistance.
